Public Service Announcement: Blogosphere Booby Traps
Amidst all the hoo-ha of the Dawn Yeo exposé (technorati search it if you must, i'm not linking here), I chanced upon the page of one 'xialanxue' (hosted at blogspot) and was mildly disgusted (for want of a better description - hey! it's 5am!) to find an entire webpage dedicated to the slamming of Singapore's most controversial blogger (so some say).
What puzzles me to no end is that, if these people have such extreme negative feelings towards Xiaxue, or Wendy Cheng as she is known in real life, why WHY? WHY?!! do they bother spending so much time analyzing each and every one of her articles and flaming them? It seems much too much an effort to be doing something this extensive just because you don't like a person.
Personally, I know that if I didn't like someone or something, I'd just ignore its very existence. The laughable part is that as these people spend god-knows-how-much time analyzing each article (as far back as the Fiona Xue fiasco as some on-off readers might remember) they are, simultaneously, upping her counter statistics -- shooting themselves in the foot, I would say.
I don't profess to have proofread the entire xialanxue site so I'm not exactly sure my comment is entirely fair, however, these musings are based on what I've read thus far (which is not much because I couldn't stomach much more). Also, let it be stated for the record I am not a Xiaxue fan either. As she herself says, why do so many people care what she thinks? If you disagree with her just let it be lah, I mean, why does the entire blogosphere seem so indignant on changing her one view to suit theirs? Is her view really that important? Not to me. I don't really care what she thinks. I only read her blog from time to time to kill my own time. (Not that I profess to have very much of this either, but I digress.)
So I guess the point of this post is to say that, people, pleeeease, if you must do up a website, do it on something more interesting so I don't feel like banging my head on the wall having wasted XX minutes of my life reading your unentertaining garbage. I hereby term these blogosphere booby traps. Beware netizens, you have been warned!
